Week 28

I can't believe how fast this pregnancy has gone so far. We are now in the third trimester! We went back to the doctor on Thursday and here is what we found out....

  • Most of my glucose levels are okay so the diet seems to be working. It was a bit of an adjustment at first but I am used to it by now and the sugar free stuff is growing on me. David even likes my Crystal Light!
  • My morning levels are still high and that is after fasting so it could be an indicator that my body is not balancing the insulin and it has nothing to do with my diet at all.
  • We will watch it for two more weeks and if it does not level off I will see an Endocrinologist to see what type of medicine would work for me.
  • We did a sonogram and Miss Carly is happy and healthy according to the doctor because she is breathing!
  • I will have to go back and visit the Perinatal doctor towards the end of the pregnancy to determine how big our sweetheart is.
  • The plan is to watch her size and try to deliver naturally, but in the event that she is too big we will schedule a C-Section for the 39th week. Which would mean Carly would be here right after the 4th of July. (Which is days after I finish teaching Summer School which I was hired to do this week. Most people think I am crazy but I know if I sit idle I will stress and worry so I want to keep busy)
  • I have had some sharp pains over the last week and Dr. Wagman thinks they are related to the stretching of my uterus, but we are going to measure the cervix next time to make sure there is nothing more going on.
  • I go back every two weeks now
On top of all that, David finally felt Miss Carly move! She moves and kicks all of the time, but it never fails when he puts his hand on my belly she goes still. The other night we were on the couch watching TV and I told him to put his hand there and just wait. She barely moved and he felt it, but I assured him that is nothing compared to what she usually does!

We have the paint for the room picked out and all of her furniture is delivered (still in boxes). My Aunt is going to make her bedding and everything seems to be coming together. We still need a few pieces like a bookshelf, a toy box, and to pick up our rocker that my sweet Granny is giving us. My showers are both in May and the plan was to have her room sat up by then, but we may not make it to our goal.

27 Weeks

Please don't judge me by this photo! I was in staff development tonight until 7:30 and I am so tired :( But I realized it has been a while since I posted a picture............

The glucose monitoring is going okay. The first couple of times was rough! The first night I stuck myself seven times before I got enough blood. I was crying and upset so David said DO NOT STICK YOURSELF ANYMORE! Since then, it has gotten better. Every now and then I have to do it twice. My levels are crazy. Sometimes when I eat really good my levels are really high. Yet I eat something bad and get one of the best readings so far?! Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE sweet tea, but I have only had one glass since last Wednesday and it was not even that great! I am surviving on water and Crystal Light and it is not bad. I walked today and my levels have been good so I know that is something that I am going to have to keep up. Plus I had some major back pain this weekend but after walking I feel so much better. I go back to the Dermatologist and my OB next week so I should know then if the diet is bringing down my levels enough or if I have to take medicine.

We picked up Carly's bed this weekend and I found the fabric for her bedding. Now all we have to do is paint and put the furniture together. I still need a toy box and a book shelf, but I am debating on buying the unfinished wood and painting it a pattern to match her bedding. It seems these weeks are flying by and I am trying to enjoy it as much as I can. She is kicking a lot harder now, but her Daddy still has not felt it. For some reason when he puts his hand on my belly she gets still.

Week 26 Update- Test results are in

I got a call yesterday around 4:15 pm to call my doctor about an urgent matter. I was in a staff development and by the time I heard the message her office was closed. Fast forward to this morning and my principal came to relieve me during the TAKS test so I could call and find out what was going on. Wouldn't you know I could not get through! AGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

So I waited about an hour then tried again and finally go to talk to the nurse. She told me that according to my glucose test I took on Friday I have Gestational Diabetes. She also told me that my liver tests were in and that they wanted to see me TODAY!

Hmmmm........ this would all happen on TAKS day!

Thankfully all of my students finished around 2:30 and I was able to leave around three to head to the doctor. She told me that normal results are around 130 and mine was over 200. There was not a need for the extended test because my levels were too high and they did not want to raise them higher than needed again. For the next two weeks we are going to monitor my levels (yes I get to test 5 times a day) and try to control it with diet. If that does not work, I will have to take medication. The good news was both of my liver tests came back great so we don't have to worry about that!

Although I am so THANKFUL for the normal liver functions, I am still a little upset tonight. I know it is not the end of the world and it can be monitored and controlled, but in a way I feel like my body is failing Carly. She may grow too big or have issues after birth if this gets out of control. I know a lot of it is my hormones, but I am a little emotional right now. I know everything will work out and we will put it behind us once our beautiful baby girl is here.
