Week 37

Carly is now estimated to be 7 pounds 9 ounces. My doctor is thinking about moving the c-section to next Friday or the following Monday depending on how things go over the weekend and early part of next week. My cervix is softer but still closed. She could feel Carly's head and that is where my discomfort is coming from. Lots of Braxton Hicks contractions, but no real ones so far!

Week 36 Update

Not much new to report. Both appointments went well this week. Carly looks great, but she is out of room. Poor girl. I did gain back 3 of the 4 pounds I lost over the previous week. I got some new sono pics but I cant find the "safe place" that I put them. As soon as I do I will post them. There are two profile pics and one where she is shaking her fist in the air. Already the little diva!

Right now we are still looking at July 7th for the C-section. It will be here before we know it!

Summer school is half way done! Woo-hoo! It really is not bad at all and it keeps me busy. If only I could get motivated to do my chores when I get home. I have a lot to do in the next two weeks :)

Week 35 Update

Well we went back to the doctor this week and had more time to talk with her and get some answers. She basically said that the baby is not huge! She is in the 74th percentile, but her head is her largest measurement and she will more than likely have fatty shoulders because of my gestational diabetes. She also said that she would not induce me because of her size and my gestational diabetes so if I chose to not have a c-section they would let me go and I could go all the way to 42 weeks making her close to 11 pounds by then. My Mom asked if it were her what she would do-and she immediately said C-section. Basically she said I could labor for hours and she may never even drop because of her head size and then I would have to have one anyway. She still says it is my choice, but I am going with the c-section. It is going to be around July 7th unless Carly wants to come sooner which would not surprise me at this point. Tomorrow we have another appointment with the perinatal doctor. They are only supposed to "weigh" her every other week but its been a week and a half so I am not sure if they will or not.

On a good note- I lost 4 pounds over the past week. Shocking for this stage of pregnancy, but it is due to my body finally balancing the sugars and being used to the insulin which is a sign it is working! I have had some strange episodes of dizziness over the weekend. My sugars have gone from close to 200 down to the sixties in the matter of an hour. It made me lose my lunch to say the least, but I think it is finally balancing out. I am not sure what that was all about, but I am glad it is over!

8 Month Photo

This picture was taken about two and a half weeks ago. It is not the best quality but I am really slacking on the belly photos- so here it is! I will try to take some more this weekend. Now that she has dropped I dont feel as big!

34 Week Update

We had two appointments last Friday and I am just now getting to update. Here is what we found out:

- the Perinatal doctor told us that Carly has a large head- it is currently measuring at the 37 week range

- the fluid around her looks great

- her heart looked great

- she is still a girl- thank the Lord (dont know what we would do if they told us she was a boy now)

- she is currently estimated to weigh 5 pounds and 15ounces

Since I am now on insulin I have to go back weekly. As long as my sugars are under control I am not considered high risk, but they want to keep their eye on us.

While David waited for our DVD- I ran downstairs to see Dr. Wagman. She was waiting for me since my appointment with the other doctor ran late and she had just been called to delivery when I got there. So I did not get much of a chance to talk with her. She checked me out quickly(she did not have much to do since the other doctor had just done the same things) and then I updated her on what we had just learned. She said we will continue to watch Carly's size, but she is worried about her head and her shoulders- so she thinks the C-Section will be the best choice for us. Baby's whose mothers have Gestational Diabetes usually store a lot of fat around their shoulders. Even if I could get her "large" head out- she worries that her shoulders may get stuck and then we risk having to break her shoulder to get her out.

A part of me was really saddened by all of this. I wont know what it is like to experience labor with real contractions. I know several people are wondering why I would be sad about this, but I guess since it is a part of being a woman I just wanted to experience it. Plus I am really worried about being cut open. This will be my first trip to the hospital, not to mention surgery! All of my friends keep telling me it will be fine and that they thought it was easier so I am just trying to stay calm for now. David and I talked about it for a long time the other morning and I am really at peace with it all. Its amazing how a baby changes everything. I want the doctor to do what is best for Carly and I will suck it up and do what I am told!

In the mean time, I go back tomorrow and she may tell me when she wants to do it. We are almost through with her room. We have just about everything we need to start out with, I have exchanges clothes for bigger sizes, etc. I start summer school on Monday and Davis is in the process of starting a new job. Keep us in your prayers that all of this works out! Looks like we may have a baby in 3 weeks!

While Mommy's Away...

This afternoon I went to Sams and while I was gone David called to report that my little Jackson was being very bad! Over the last week he has been obsessed with Carly's room. So we put a little bed in there for him and he goes in there and "chills." Over the weekend he discovered her Precious Moments doll. He got it off her shelf and proceeded to carry it around her room. Today, he decided her bouncy seat looked pretty comfortable so he made that his new "spot." Oh he is going to be a hand full!

Week 33 Update

Today I went to see the endocrinologist and back to Dr. Wagman (my OB/GYN). I had to take a half day off to go to both. I thought since there were three hours between appointments I could do some exchanging at Babies R US. NOT! We got there at 1:25 and did not leave until after 4:00. Of course this made me late to my second appointment and left my husband in a really BAD mood. The most frustrating part was that I saw two doctors and a nurse while there and if I totaled the time for all three- it would be around 25 minutes. So the majority of the time was spent waiting in the waiting room, then an actual room, and then another room! Geesh!

When I finally talked to the doctor she gave me the dreaded news I was so trying to avoid- I need insulin shots. They are starting me out with 1 at bedtime, but may have to increase to two if my after breakfast levels don't come down. I have to go back tomorrow to meet with a Diabetic Educator for my prescriptions and lessons on how to inject myself, diet plans, etc. The crazy part is the doctor gave me a five minute presentation on the injections and some samples to start tonight. My insurance may not cover the "Diabetic Educator" but I have no choice- I have to go. I was pretty bummed. Of course David is agitated and asking all kinds of questions and all I wanted to do was cry.

On to the next doctor! I have to say I was in and out- sonogram and blood work included in 25 minutes! The nurse said it was a record. I had missed a message earlier in the day that the doctor was doing an emergency c-section and had to cancel my appointment. They did not even tell me when I got there. Just got me in and out and the doctor was on her way! She did say everything looked good. Carly still has plenty of fluid and as usual moving like crazy! In the last week she has turned head down. The doctor said she may stay this way- or sometimes they "practice" getting into position. David said "Great- my daughter will be just like you. Practicing so she can do everything right." Let's hope so! She also said I am measuring ahead so I am going to the Perinatal doctor next Friday to get a better idea of how big she is. From there- we can start devising a plan if she has to come early or if I will need a C-Section because of her size, etc.

I can't believe we are almost there. I have so many emotions right now. I want her here and want to hold her and kiss her, but we have a lot to prepare still. Let's just say a lot needs to happen in the next few weeks and I am kind of in panic mode. Not to mention I am packing up my classroom to move to another one. I am just going to take it one day at a time and say my prayers that everything works out like it should. I trust in the Lord and know he will do what is best :)
