We had two appointments last Friday and I am just now getting to update. Here is what we found out:
- the Perinatal doctor told us that Carly has a large head- it is currently measuring at the 37 week range
- the fluid around her looks great
- her heart looked great
- she is still a girl- thank the Lord (dont know what we would do if they told us she was a boy now)
- she is currently estimated to weigh 5 pounds and 15ounces
Since I am now on insulin I have to go back weekly. As long as my sugars are under control I am not considered high risk, but they want to keep their eye on us.
While David waited for our DVD- I ran downstairs to see Dr. Wagman. She was waiting for me since my appointment with the other doctor ran late and she had just been called to delivery when I got there. So I did not get much of a chance to talk with her. She checked me out quickly(she did not have much to do since the other doctor had just done the same things) and then I updated her on what we had just learned. She said we will continue to watch Carly's size, but she is worried about her head and her shoulders- so she thinks the C-Section will be the best choice for us. Baby's whose mothers have Gestational Diabetes usually store a lot of fat around their shoulders. Even if I could get her "large" head out- she worries that her shoulders may get stuck and then we risk having to break her shoulder to get her out.
A part of me was really saddened by all of this. I wont know what it is like to experience labor with real contractions. I know several people are wondering why I would be sad about this, but I guess since it is a part of being a woman I just wanted to experience it. Plus I am really worried about being cut open. This will be my first trip to the hospital, not to mention surgery! All of my friends keep telling me it will be fine and that they thought it was easier so I am just trying to stay calm for now. David and I talked about it for a long time the other morning and I am really at peace with it all. Its amazing how a baby changes everything. I want the doctor to do what is best for Carly and I will suck it up and do what I am told!
In the mean time, I go back tomorrow and she may tell me when she wants to do it. We are almost through with her room. We have just about everything we need to start out with, I have exchanges clothes for bigger sizes, etc. I start summer school on Monday and Davis is in the process of starting a new job. Keep us in your prayers that all of this works out! Looks like we may have a baby in 3 weeks!
